Can Light Change Materials? Exploring the Science of Lasers

 Light is all around us, but what if we could use light to cut, shape, and even change the properties of materials? Lasers make this possible by concentrating light into a powerful and precise beam. Today, lasers are widely used in our daily lives, from medical treatments and electronic devices to manufacturing and scientific research. 

In this seminar, we will begin by exploring what lasers are, how they work, and what makes laser light different from ordinary light. We will then look at what happens when a laser beam hits a material and how lasers can be used to cut, remove, or modify its surface. Through examples from our research, we will show how extremely short laser pulses can create tiny structures on material surfaces and change how they interact with light, heat, and water. We will also briefly introduce how artificial intelligence can help us understand and improve laser processing. 

By connecting basic scientific ideas with real-world examples, this seminar will demonstrate how lasers can transform ordinary materials into materials with new and useful properties, and how the power of light can contribute to future technologies.
